Post What is the Book of Kells?

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could help me out. Recently my parents visited some place in Ireland? And they saw the "book of kells", they said that it was a copy of the gospels from 600 A.D. Does anyone have some interesting facts about this? I am not a christian, but my parents are, and I know they will try to convince me how "cool" it was to see these original "holy" writings, when they return. I am looking for some good, pointed questions to ask them.. Or interesting facts. Thank you!!!

The "Book of Kells" is a Latin version of the gospels with commentary written in 800 C.E. It is a beautiful manuscript and should certainly be regarded as a tremendous piece of artwork. As far as the history of the Xian text legacy goes it's not terribly interesting or important.

Incidentally you can see some of the artwork from the Book of Kells <a href="http://www.esotericart.com/fringe/art/symbolic/BookKell/kells.htm" target="_blank">here</a>

What CX said. Like <a href="http://www.bl.uk/collections/treasures/lindis.html" target="_blank">The Lindisfarne Gospels</a> (with which it is not to be confused), it is of artistic rather than historical importance.
