My reply : Lesser Evil.
So it doesn't have as much right to exist if it doesn't scream when you bite into it?

It is easier to cultivate plants using our current technology than killing off creatures which required years to bred to a certain size (such as cows and Whales).

Besides, plant products holds more nutritional values than animal fats ... at least that what I read.
How nutritional value pertains to the "goodness" or "evilness" of consuming organisms is beyond me.

If it OK to kill another animal to fill our stomach, then it is OK also for an animal to kill humans to fill their stomach.
Animals killing people is not an issue of morality. Most animals that can hunt a human don't have any real conception of morals, anyway.

We have an aversion to being hunted ourselves because it affects our survival as a whole, no matter how insignificantly.

What sort of a question is that? Are you lining yourself up to tell us that killing animals is the same as killing plants?

Many species of cows would likely be extinct if not used by humans as food. The same cannot be said for whales.

I would argue that we have a problem with being hunted ourselves because it really messes with the whole 'masters of the universe' mentality we seem to enjoy. 'We can go to the moon but we make a tasty snack for lions...What's up with that?'

Personally, I respect the animal's power and instinct. Not that I am going to give them ketchup to go with the 'ME' snack.

Well, that too.

Hardly. There are differences - animals tend to move about, many of them are fuzzy and cute, and they taste one hell of a lot better than veggies -and I'm not denying any of them.

I'm just interested in why Seraphim regards killing plants as a "lesser evil".

<"TASTE", not "test"! >

Empathy?

Of course, it's quite possible that your empathy doesn't work the way it does for most other people.

We interrupt this discussion to bring you an important message from the moderator staff:

Please, please, do not let this deteriorate into one of the typical flamefests about vegetarian philosophy/practice/ideology/whatever.

If it heads downhill we'll lock the thread if it doesn't look like it can be salvaged.

We return you now to your regularly scheduled programming.

thanks,
Michael

Thank you Other-Micheal.............

So back to the point:

1) Should whaling be outlawed?
2) Do we need to saction or offically approve of something Japan is doing anyway?
3) Why the killing? Shoddy researcher-ship?
