Whaling
Should bans be lifted off whaling for the Japanese. The Japanese feel that whale populations are high enough for Minke and Sperm Whales to allow for a lifting of bans, do you agree? Why or why not?

How sickening is this ... shooting a gentle creature with a lance that carries chemical that will burn inside the poor beast. No enough poking the creature, they have to fry it inside out.
And Japan's so-called Research ... no more than act of predators tracking migration of its prey. I always admired Japan for a lot of things but this is one things (Whaling) which I do not support. Everyone can stop such actives by stop buying products which is made from animal - such as tusk, meat, animal skins etc. |

I had always been against whaling because of the danger of extinction, and I always assumed that was everyone elses problem with whaling as well.
However, even since the whales have apparently repoulated enough to hunt them safely, everyone is still horrified at the idea. Legitimate question: If the whales really HAVE repopulated, and there is no danger of extinction, then what is the problem with hunting them, exactly? In your answers, could you also include whether or not you find cow farming objectionable. NOTE: I am not neccesarily in favour of whale hunting, it's just that the only objection I had ever had has been kind of swept out from under me, and I am left not knowing which side of the controversy to stand. |

Biodiversity aside, I've always wondered how meat eaters could feel so bad about things like this .
I mean ... if you can kill an animal for food, given that you do have other alternatives ... then what does it matter what species it belongs to ? - Sivakami. |

Also: if the objection is the supposed 'intelligence' of whales and dolphins, I have some bad news for you regarding rats.

Fine example of Humanitarian load of crap we getting here ...
So it is OK if someone kills Whales for their meats? Right? OK by me as long as : 1. No one kills bears or other creatures if it attack, kills and devours humans. Afterall, humans are cheap meat for a hungry bears since humans can't run fast enough. 2. No one make noise if some lumber company cut down trees to make small match sticks. 3. OK if all the creatures in the wild killed off as long as their species remain in some zoo humans recreate ... as long as they don't go extinct, right? |

You may have missed it, seraphim, but most of our replies are phrased as questions. The fact is, humans eat meat, and we hunt animals for it.
My question is not 'is killing animals for food okay?' my question is: 'is killing whales somehow worse than other, more standard farming such as cow slaughter.' What is your position on cow slaugter? |

"What is your position on cow slaugter? "
My reply : Definately against it. But people still can make a living by raising cattle IF they produce milk to be sold, so their income is not jeapordized. I don't see why cows have to be killed just to fullfil someone's stomach. Same as eating chicken. Raising chicken for their eggs should be OK as long as we don't have to kill them and those who depends on them (raising chickens) for income is not effected. As for Whale, there are better source of protein other than their meat - which includes non-meat product which contains just as much protein as meat which can be a substitute for them. Soya bean is one example - I read somewhere. I don't see WHY Whales should be hunted anymore than I don't see why Bears shouldn't come into your house and take a large bite at you. |
