>Of course there are no atheists in foxholes...
We're on the battlefield, defending liberty & justice for all!

Some less-polite variations:
>Of course there are no atheists in foxholes...
We're on the battlefield! (Why are you hiding in that stinkin' hole?!)

>Of course ther are no atheists in foxholes...
Can you say "friendly fire"?

Other thoughts:

>Think you very much!

>Some thoughts are worth a penny,
but free thoughts are priceless!

>Don't tread on me! Break out the ole rattlesnake flags.

"Leave the matter of religion to the family altar, the church, and private schools entirely supported by private contributions. Keep the church and state forever separate."

- U.S. Grant, Sept. 1875 Address to the Army of the Tennessee

Way too long for a banner, of course, but the above quote is good T-shirt material.

Thumbs up

There are some really good ideas in the Photoshop thread. For instance, this one by freemonkey on page 41:

I think banners at the Godless March should have a positive message: "Freedom of Conscience for All: Religious and Non-Religious"; "Godless and Proud"; "Atheist Patriot"; "Secular Humanists for a Secular America"; Founding Father quotes, etc.

I hope nobody brings anti-religious or "arrogant" banners. My wife will be leaving her shirt that Penn Jillette signed "Fuck God" at home .

The messages we want to send at the March, in my opinion, as a board member of two supporting organizations, are 1) that non-religious people are a sizable minority; 2) Godless people are "normal" without horns or chips on their shoulders; and 3) Godless people live happy, normal lives.

THOUGHTfully Yours,
Clark Adams

I agree with those who hope that there are no anti-religious sentiments. A reasonable estimate is that, for example, over 50% of those who support the Pledge ruling are Christian. Why lump those who are willing to practice their religion in peace with those who support a more inquisitionesque morality?

If there are negative signs, I would hope that they target specific abuses rather than launch geneneral, generic attacks against religion. Specifically, something that distinguishes religions that practice an inquisitionesque morality as opposed to those who practice a more peaceful religion.

I want to see this on a 20-foot-long banner waving above the crowd for all the people watching on TV who just don't get it. By popular request, please? I'm not sure if the public would understand the "theocracy" ones.

Concerning the banner, "Under God, or Indivisible. Pick one."

Here's the problem. Those who don't get it will read this not as an assertion that they are contradicting themselves. They will read it as a threat. As "Either you do what I want and remove 'under God' from the Pledge, or I will split this country in two."
