Heavenly Real Estate
Life...after death.
Its the biggie...and as Rablais said..."the great perhaps." In Christiainity it's symbolized by material wealth...In Islam, flowing gardens of shade, with nubile virgins as servants.. Is there another dimension beyond this one....Jonathan Edwards says so...! or do we come back, to get our "lessons" right in the Cosmic school? Or is it just electrodes flashing around in the brain, the optics nerves burning out (the white tunnel), the mind's defenses releasing long term memories and heavy duty endorphins.... Both sides have their say and their facts... But which is which..and what really happens when I take the Big Sleep. |

HomoSapien:
Life after death suggests that our intellect and personality can exist without our physical bodies. There is absolutely no evidence that this could be true. In fact, there is a great deal of evidence to suggest just the opposite. Chemicals, electrodes, head injuries, diseases, and brain surgery can all drastically affect the intellect and personality of an individual. If a non-physical soul were calling the shots instead of the brain, these observations would not make sense. |

As to diseases, an especially interesting one is Alzheimer's disease, which has aptly been called "the death of the mind before the death of the body". And a very slow death, taking several years.
If the mind is due to some special mind-stuff, is it trying to wiggle free during all that time? |

That brings up another interesting question. If a good person with alzheimers dies, does that person enter heaven in that state? If not, does the persons consciousness "rewind" to a pre-disease state? |

As a young lad growing up in the Mormon church, I was told that your heavenly body would take on the form of your earthly body in its most prestine state.
I always took that to mean before any damage came to it. Such as old age, smoking drinking, disease.... |
