Jesus says - "no God" in the pledge please!
First read this bit and consider that a pledge is an oath and an oath is sworn.
From Matthew 5: 33 Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths: 34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne: 35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. 36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. Now this bit, also from Matthew 5: 19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. In other words, forcing, coercing, cajoling, encouraging or politically agitating for the pledge and the words "under God" is not the xtian thing to do. Believe it or burn baby! After all, it's the word of God isn't it? |

Strikes me that 99 senators falling over themselves to outdo each other at saying "under god" is more than a little vain too. So you could add one of the commandments to your list as well. |
