2 Topics: on unicorns, sort of.
Topic #1: "Some People Just Don't Get It."
I spent a good hour (and I mean good) waxing philosophical with a friend of mine who is clinically depressed. He asked me how I can be so positive all the time. He wanted me to reveal the source of my positive energy so that he could tap into it and maybe help relieve some of his depression. As I said, I spent about an hour talking to him about my own history, my own battle with mild depression, my quest for meaning, the Myth of Ciciphus, and of course, my atheism. He listened with rapt attention, and I hope he really got anything out of all I said. He took me seriously and I think there were a few things he really took to heart. At the end of it, he said "I want you to have this" and handed me a beautiful pendant on a chain. He said "You probably don't believe in the power of crystals [ya' think?!], but this will help keep negative energy away from you." Um, I thought we'd just determined that I wasn't the one who has the problem with negative energy. Well, it was a sweet sentiment, and I really like the pendant, so I kept it. It is a pretty, shiny crystal with a pewter unicorn on it. I decided to look at it as a symbol of our own atheism deity, the Invisible Pink Unicorn. Except that she is neither invisible, nor pink. At which point, the light-bulb turned on, and that led me to my next topic. Topic #2: "Inivisible Pink Unicorn: intentionally internally inconsistent?" How can she be both invisible and pink at the same time?! I have seen a picture of a translucent pink unicorn in the Photoshop Competition, but that's not exactly the same. Is this an old topic, because it really just dawned on me. Did we intentionally make our own deity as internally inconsistent as everybody else's deity? The mind wobbles! Jen |

Can you prove she isn't pink? I didn't think so!

Well, you see, "invisibility" and "pinkness" are only contradictions within the physical realm, which obviously does not apply to IPU!!!! She is outside of space and time and is not constrained by the laws of physics or ANY natural laws.

Well, what other color would the Invisible Pink Unicorn be?
And who are we, mere mortals, that we should question the nature of the IPU? Such is beyond our understanding. Read her words (spoken to me just now): "I am pink, that I am pink." |

Here's a question for you. I know that someone was giving you a gift with good intentions. But at what point is it okay to be offended?
I mean, I am definitely not one to believe in the "power" of crystals and demand that people define what they mean when they use the word "energy" because I, as a physicist, have a specific meaning for the word. When can I be offended by someone giving me such a gift. It's the same as them saying "I'll pray for you". No matter how sincerely or innocently given, it's like they are inflicting me with their ignorance. Am I just being a hard-ass? |

One time I was leaving my home to go to school, and the parking situation where I live is beyond ridiculous, and a lady caught me walking toward my car with my keys and she asked "Are you leaving?" I said yes and she said "Bless your heart!" I really wanted to go back into my house and not give her the parking space after that, but I had an exam to get to. How could I be that offended by "Bless your heart."? At least she didn't say "Thank you, Jesus." I would have blown of an exam for that remark. Heehee!

THE HOLY IPU MUST NOT BE QUESTIONED HOW DARE YOU QUESTION HER HOLY PINKNESS (PBUH) !!!!! YOU WILL BE SENT TO BE IMPALED UPON HER HOLY HORN AND LIVE IN AGONY FOR ALL ETERNITY!!!!!!!!
Was that good enough? I couldn't bear to misspell. That would be too painful. Ah well. |

Hang on, if you take a pink thing and then make it invisible, is it not still pink? When it regains visibility, it's still pink.
I'm confusing myself... HR |
