It's true that most of need to "trust the experts" somewhat.
But that's true of many scientific theories. Like the theory that the Earth is spherical rather than flat, for instance. I have personally never seen the "horizon effect" on ships at sea (I don't live on a coast, and there's been too much haze when I've looked for it). I've seen the shadow of the Earth on the Moon during a lunar eclipse, but the Earth could be a disk. I've travelled to distant countries, but I wasn't flying the plane: I can confirm only that day and night arrive at different times in different places. Whereas I have seen plenty of evidence for evolution. The overall pattern of the evolutionary "tree of life" can be seen in the degrees of similarity between animals that I've encountered, and I have seen animals die as a result of birth defects (mutation and natural selection). Therefore I conclude that if expert testimony is ignored, evolution remains more plausible than round-Earthism. |
