Default Half and Half Taoism

Here's my newest idea <mwahaha>. Since religious Taoism believes in ghosts, chi, spirits, etc, etc, and philosophical Taoism doesnt...

What say that after death the energy that was that person remains mostly together, retaining the memory and personality for a short time. Depending on how peaceful the person is (their death is) and other circumstances, they can be in this state for a few days and then dissipate slowly back to the energy that manifested them. If, however, they died a sudden death, or are attached to life, have unfinished business, then they could hang around, pestering the living, for hundreds of years.

What say you, as a purely hypothetical situation (those here that are not completely against supernatuality)?

Nero,

Seeing as no-one has come back from the dead to report, the conception of what happens after death is up for grabs. Your conception is as valid as that of anyone else.

The only 'evidence' we have for life after death is the VERY questionable ghost stories that float around. If these are true, then I think that my idea is as, if not more, applicable than the "otherworld" afterlife scenerios, as my 'ghosts'' energy remains here, near the body, or atleast on the same planet. I dont know, any more than the next, but the only evidence that I can place is either none at all (so I could be right, if anyone is) or the ghost and folk stories (in which case my idea fits more than many others that I have heard).

When left to make up one's own mind only two things need be considered: 1) what do I feel is correct, and 2) what does the evidence point to. If a person finds something that satisfies both of these conditions, then I think they have found what is the best for them.

The evidence points to no life after death, but I'll be damned if I believe that. For most of my life, I have no problem applying reason and looking at the evidence. The subject of life after death is an exception; I simply cannot accept non-existence after death, never mind what the evidence says, so I don't accept it. It's a question of needs. If I had a great need to believe the earth is flat, I would reject all evidence of its being round. Since I don't have such a need, I accept a round earth - and heliocentrism, and abiogenesis and evolution. But no life after death I simply can't accept.
