Post Gideon Bibles in schools

A school just outside my city has stopped prayers and Bible distribution! And it has only taken them 40 years or so to figure out both are illegal.

Scott said a teacher at his school recited the Lord's Prayer in the morning after the Pledge of Allegiance, but that also has been halted.

"It is my understanding the teacher had started doing the Lord's Prayer after 9/11," Scott said. "But his class, along with the entire school, will observe a moment of silence."

This kind of stuff happens a lot, IMO. And why does it take a brave person to complain?

The quote about the teacher only beginning to pray after 9/11 may be false. A friend of mine who used to teach there said that a guy started each day with prayer back in '99. And that he had been doing it for several years.

I'm shocked that something of this magnitude has happened not very far from where I live, but not too surprised. Ohio's schools and Government aren’t the best examples of secular institutions.

Apparently, this could have been going on for 20 years.

"I've been doing this for more than 20 years," McCandlish said. "We've never had a complaint before."

They've now had at least TWO complaints!

But McCandlish acknowledged it would have to stop.

"But in the end we will pay for it later with more criminals and problems in society," McCandlish said.
What an ironic statement from someone who is already braking the law.

"I've owned Darkies for decades, and they never complained."

"Just look at all the women out there that don't complain about not being able to vote."

"All these kinds of Liberal philosophies will destroy the Americam way. They are down right un-American and un-Patriotic. We should stop allowing all these foreigners to enter OUR country."

Another follow-up article from the Columbus Dispatch.
After years of allowing Bibles to be distributed to students in the classroom, Rushville Middle School recently eliminated the practice. It also ordered a teacher who had been reciting the Lord's Prayer with students in class to stop. The school acted after it received an e-mailed complaint asserting that the practices violate the constitutional separation of church and state.

It told me it wanted $4.95 or proof that I was a subscriber to the print edition!

Sorry, I didn't notice. When I first went to that site it was free and I am a paid subscriber.

I guess their policy has drastically changed.

A letter to the editor;

It is all right for a school system to approve of sexual perversion and call it an alternative lifestyle, and if someone is offended, well, tough cookie.

It is permissible to use school facilities to condone sexual promiscuity by dispensing condoms and calling it "safe sex." If someone is offended, that's OK.

(The Nativity Scene she mentions was a controversy back in '99 when I asked permission to put up an Atheist Season's Greeting sign.)

I have promised my wife to keep a lower profile, but this lady's letter is making my typing fingers twitch!
