Post Need help finding a particular scripture on prophesy:-)

There is a scripture which says that the fulfillment of a prophesied penalty can be averted, if the conditions which required the penalty, are corrected.

I've read it a dozen times, but cannot find it:-)

Doesn't ring a bell with me, Woodeye.

It has been argued (unsuccessfully) that Jechoniah was obviously relieved of his curse (which stated that he'd have no more children and none of his sons would sit on the throne of David, or something like that) since he did have more sons and he is listed in the genealogy of Jesus H. Christ, 1 ea. (Of course, the OT forgot to mention what he did to make things right with the Lord and, in an apparent oversight, has cut the scene in which God forgives him. Oopsie.)

I would argue that, if it doesn't come true, it isn't a prophesy or a curse--it's merely wishful thinking or a threat.

If a prophesy doesn't come true, does that "prove" that it's false or that God changed his mind (even if you aren't told that God changed his mind or why)?

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for:

Jonah 3:4-10:
On the first day, Jonah started into the city. He proclaimed: "Forty more days and Nineveh will be overturned." The Ninevites believed God. They declared a fast, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth. When the news reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust. Then he issued a proclamation in Nineveh: "By the decree of the king and his nobles: Do not let any man or beast, herd or flock, taste anything; do not let them eat or drink. But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth. Let everyone call urgently on God. Let them give up their evil ways and their violence. Who knows? God may yet relent and with compassion turn from his fierce anger so that we will not perish." When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he had compassion and did not bring upon them the destruction he had threatened. (NIV)
