Be very careful here. The "great mother goddess" is one of those cherished ideas of anthropologists that started to fall apart in the 1950s. However, that's also just about the time that the idea started making it big with pop science writers. The latest finds at Catalhoyuk give a very different picture than that drawn by Marija Gimbutas. The official website for the current set of digs is very interesting reading. The discussion board is however, populated by a lot of Goddess fanatics. I think the archeologists draw straws to see who has to deal with the nutters each week.

If you're thinking of Inana instead, then yes, she definitely predates Jehovah.

Just did the google...Sumerian background...I'm familiar a little on them. I'm familiar with their civilization predating that of Jewish culture. I managed to miss her name. Have you read any Samuel Noah Kramer?
