Thumbs up

Good job, Buffman! Would like to hear the results.

Admiral, the court case which found that mandatory chapel attendance at service academies violates the First Amendment is Anderson v. Laird(1972). The decision was rendered by the U.S. Court of Appeals D.C. Circuit.

Gravitybow;

Thanks again. That's useful information. I might work it into my next tirade to the editor.

Anderson v. Laird appears to be too old to be on Findlaw's database, but while looking for it I found this article you might be interested in concerning religious freedom in the military (I haven't had the time to read all of it, but it appears to be well documented):

<a href="https://www.patrick.af.mil/deomi/Observances%20&%20Demographics/Additional%20Resources/Religious%20Resources/acco95.htm" target="_blank">Religious Accommodation 1995 </a> by Chaplain (Captain) Carlos C. Huerta of the United States Army.

Toto;

Thanks, I am printing that out for easier reading. I'll read it all a little later.

I attended New Mexico Military Institute, a state-subsidized military high school and junior college. Chapel was mandatory unless you could demonstrate you were some non-Christian religion. My Muslim roommate and the Jews didn't have to go. The rest of us were marched over to the chapel every Sunday morning.

By the way, I noticed on the alumni board recently that they were going to use state funding to renovate the chapel, which had originally been built with donations.
