There is a very good reason why only men are priests. The priests are supposed to be symbolic representations of Jesus Christ. I would find it quite inappropriate for Sean Connery to play the part of Marilyn Monroe in a movie. Likewise, it is also inappropriate for a woman to represent Jesus Christ.

Funny - I can't imagine anyone playing Peter Pan better than Sandy Duncan. Did you find that "inappropriate"?

Your political representative can be a man or woman, regardless of your gender. I would have thought that what mattered if priests really represented Jesus would be that they were human beings. Or perhaps a chimp could be a priest as long as he was a male.

I notice that so far we have had no catholic apologists explaining why it was right for these women to be excommunicated while Hitler and paedophile priests weren't.

On a related issue, the church is run by priests, who at present are all men. This means that no women, whether nuns or laywomen, can have a significant voice in running the church.

Women are not excommunicated for preaching the word of God but for unlawfully entering the sanctuary that represents the conscious mind of man. This is just part of the mystical imagery portrayed by the Church. It represents a division and subordination of the subconscious to the conscious mind which also is meant to exist between male and female and between humanity and womanity. This division should never become blurred and is probably is a remnant from the old opposite sex society.

I don't think priests are allowed to insert penis' into little boys or girls, but if they do why should such a sin not be forgiven? I mean it is just a sin, is it not, and are not all sins the same in the eyes of God? To think otherwise sounds vengefull and is a good reason to keep you away from the pulpit.

If men sit silently with the knowledge that their subordinates have and continue to sexually abuse children, and with this knowledge hid the perpetrator and shuffle this man to different parishes where he abuses children again – these men have condoned and participated in the behavior and thereby gave their consent. These men have been allowed to sexually abuse boys and girls in any number of horrific ways. They also knew it was wrong or else “treatment” facilities would not have been created to send these men to for “recovery.” These men are never excommunicated and they are forgiven. They are even given their jobs back and in any event always cared for by the Church until their dieing day. They have committed many sins: bearing false witness through their lies and deceit, destroying the trust of a child entrusted to their care, falsely representing the Body of Christ (unless of course Christ was a child molester as well) and both Church and priest committed felonies: including rape and obstruction of justice.

Hitler was responsible for some of this centuries most heinous crimes and murdered millions of Gods chosen people and for this he was not excommunicated.

Yet, when a woman does nothing more then violate a rule that actually harms NO ONE, they are excommunicated. These women have broken no laws and yet for “for unlawfully entering the sanctuary that represents the conscious mind of man” they have received the harshest punishment that can be given. For “unlawfully” entering an imaginary sanctuary!

Why does this not sound utterly and completely indefensible? Why no forgiveness for these women who have harmed no one? They have murdered no man, woman or child. They have committed no felony. They have not obstructed justice, raped, molested or destroyed the soul of a child(ren), and for daring to represent Christ while possessing a vagina makes them more heinous and criminal then even the most vicious despot!

Damn straight sweetie – your Church wouldn’t want a woman with an opinion, a brain and a backbone preaching a word to its mindless masses. Heaven forbid a thing with a vagina would be allowed to enter into the sanctuary that represents the conscious minds of men – (the horror, the travesty, the unthinkable and untold tortures …) AND SPEAK … what might befall the Church if a woman stood before it’s faithful and spoke … Can't you just feel the love, the compassion, tolerance and forgiveness!

Hypocrites. Damned hypocrites and if there is a God/Goddess then surely IT/HE/SHE/THEY can see the hypocrisy of such ignorant, bigoted stupidity and punish the Catholic Church for it.

If women want to preach the Gospel, they can do so as RCIA instructors, CCD teachers, or more dramatically, as vowed religious. (The Domincans, after all, are known as the "Order of Preachers"). No one is stopping a woman from getting a degree in theology and teaching religion in a Catholic high school.

Women cannot and should not be priests. It is that simple. They can still preach, in fact, they are called to.
