Question Other Universe vs Same Universe

Is it true that at some point that christians believed that God was literally up in heaven. Meaning that if you could jump high enough you could see him?

If so,

When did this idea get abandoned for the newer notion that heaven is in another dimension that we are subjective to?

At first he lived on a sacred mountain, but people climbed it and no one was there

So they put him up in the sky, but people flew to the sky and he wasn't there either.

I was curious if there was any kind of pivotal decision in the churches history that put heaven out of the physical world into some other kind of dimension that it's supposed to be in now.

It is a bit of a stretch, so I will move this over to Misc. Religion Discussion.

Some of the Prophets and the early Gnostice Christians (Gospel of St. Thomas) held the idea that God was everywhere and in all things but naturally the established church of the Roman Empire branded this blasphemy and killed them all.
