My turn. (transliterations left to right)

Come on, people. This should be easy for all the Bible scholars here.

It seems very few people here have expertise in Hebrew grammar. I am not surprised.
I have a list of what I was assured are spelling mistakes and crudities in the accepted text of the Bible at http://www.bowness.demon.co.uk/spell.htm As I can't personally check them, perhaps somebody else might like to. |

These are something known as Kethib(written)/Qere(read or called out). The scribes considered the written text too sacred to be modified, so they left obvious spelling errors (usually substitutions of similar looking letters - yod/waw) intact (kethib) and wrote what they believe the actual word to be in the margin which would be what they would read to a "congregation" (qere). I really hope there is someone here who can translate my phrase. It would really flatter me (hint, hint). [ July 27, 2002: Message edited by: King Arthur ]
|

The Kethib/Qere are not just spelling errors. No.
