Abe,

Simply put, the way I see it is he's spending his money, not mine. If that's how he wants to do it, so be it.

No, he's not a hero except that he carries on despite the injury. Many do not, it takes strong character to do so.

Do you have any evidence that Reeve was unqualified to be on that horse? Or that he was showing off? Or that he took any unreasonable risks?

If you don't then your posts will need to go down as one of the most inane posts I have seen in a long time (and I am including a bunch of creationist posts).

Even the most qualified, skilled, and careful people have accidents.

And besides... Don't tell me that you have never done anything that could have gotten yourself put in Mr. Reeve's "shoes." Have you ever made a mistake at the wheel of a car that would have been tragic traffic was placed a bit differently? Ever fail to look both ways? Ever run down a stairs?

Great, now this is Reeve's fault? I don't think so.

I read Still Me by Reeve a couple years ago; has anyone else read it? I really enjoyed it.

The cover of the latest "Rosie" magazine mentions an article about Reeve's "search for God." I didn't read the article so I don't know whether Reeves found him or not...

Cool

Last I'd heard, Reeve was what we might call a 'reluctant agnostic.' (One who deep down wants to believe... but just can't do it...)

I appreciate the foregoing responses. I am angry about a number of kinds of human/reckless
wastage. (You may recall that the Apostle who voiced his similar opinion was *Judas*.) Of course I do not include my own personal sorts, so dear to me.. Of course ,in
a materialist World in which no "moralistic" precepts need apply, my personal feelings of outrage towards the motes in my fellow-humans's
eyes have no business existing (in me), let alone being-bitched aloud. My consolation, perhaps, is that our(human) future is, almost-certainly, to join the 99.9... per cent of terrestrial organisms wh/ (have) become extinct.
Getting-old/narrowing-down, guess.

The article is actually an excerpt from his new book. It is pretty much just about his brush with Scientology. Some of it can be found at Rosie Magazine Online. The printed magazine has a bit more:

My problem has always been with religious dogma intended to manipulate behavior.

Over the years I have come to believe that spirituality is found in the way we live our daily lives. It means spending time thinking about others. It's not so hard to imagine that there is some kind of higher power. We don't have to know what form it takes or exactly where it exists: just to honor it and try to live by it are enough. As these thoughts unfolded, I had no idea I was becoming a Unitarian. But now my wife, Dana, my son Will and I attend services regularly. What I like about Unitarian Universalism is that God isn't terrifying. He asks us just to do our best, trusting our ability to discern the truth. As Abraham Lincoln said, "When I do good I feel good. When I do bad I feel bad. And that's my religion."
