There is an important difference between xianity and islam.
Jesus reputedly said, "Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's and unto God the things that are God's". This allows xians to support separation of church and state, even though in earlier centuries the two were intricately intertwined. Such a concept is foreign to islam, although some intelligent muslims recognise that this idea has to be integrated into islam in some way. A lot of the more extreme islamists want a return to the caliphate; this is directly contrary to democracy, let alone any separation of mosque and state. |
