Post I heard the craziest thing a while back...

I was sitting in my work's breakroom and was listening to two fundies talk about evolution.

One said evolution is a religion( that wasn't the the unbelievable thing, as I've heard it before.)

Then the other one claimed that evolution was no longer being taught in schools!

Huh?!

Is this some new creationist/fundie tactic or what?

I know it must be a load of crap, but what do you guys and gals think?

Thumbs down

Wishful thinking on his part... or on the part of whomever gave him that idea. Evolution isn't something that would dissappear into the night with a poof. I think we'd hear about it if it was removed from any school's ciriculum.

Scarily enough, that is sort of true out here in the hinterlands. My daughter took Honors Biology in HS last year. The text was Campbell'sBiology, which looked very good to me. The teacher, however, sort of pointed to the chapters that specifically dealt with evolution and told the kids, "You can read that stuff if you want to."
Whether this was from fear of reaction, or his own viewpoint, I don't know. He's a pretty good teacher overall - even gives hard tests that sometimes require reasoning. But he's also a member of the Primitive Baptist church. (do they use stone tools there? )

I've heard Eugenie Scott of the National Center for Science Education state that evolution is generally not taught in schools. Even where the teachers are not primitive, they don't need the hassle from even a few parents.
