Quotations and Misquotations v5 (final?)
The latest version of my proposed Talk.Origins Archive FAQ
is at: <a href="http://home.mmcable.com/harlequin/evol/quotes/quotes5.htm" target="_blank">http://home.mmcable.com/harlequin/evol/quotes/quotes5.htm</a> The main additions includes that I add a quote by Jonathan Wells as an example of a misquote caused by using words to mean different things as the quoted person did: <a href="http://home.mmcable.com/harlequin/evol/quotes/quotes5.htm#topdown" target="_blank">http://home.mmcable.com/harlequin/evol/quotes/quotes5.htm#topdown</a> I also added some concluding thoughts to the essay: <a href="http://home.mmcable.com/harlequin/evol/quotes/quotes5.htm#s3" target="_blank">http://home.mmcable.com/harlequin/evol/quotes/quotes5.htm#s3</a> Finally I have added acknowledgements to the end of the document. If you think I forgot you, please inform me. After people send in any corrections/suggestions to this final version and unless someone says something that suggests the need for revision, I will do the coding changes necessary for uploading to the Archive. |

Awesome, LordV.
The only error I found (and it's just a simple grammatical or typographical error) was in the second paragraph below the heading "the fallacy of the argument from authority": trying to summarizing should probably read "trying to summarize". |

I like it! Two little typos:
in the Argument from Authority section, right after mentioning PNAS: shold be "breadth of scientific" In "Concluding Thoughts" the second "bullet" should have "do" instead of "does." Keep up the good work! |

Thanks to Morpho and Coragyps for catching
those typos. BTW, Is my explanation of the Wells misquote clear? <a href="http://home.mmcable.com/harlequin/evol/quotes/quotes5.htm#topdown" target="_blank">http://home.mmcable.com/harlequin/evol/quotes/quotes5.htm#topdown</a> |

Quote:
Looks good, though I think "Quoting someone and not inform the reader..." should be "Quoting someone and not informing the reader..." in the Wells section. Great Job! Alias_StN |

What would you think about changing:
"Since Wells is saying that evolution predicts the exact opposite of what it actually does it might seem puzzling that Wells could find a quote to support it." to: "Since Wells is saying that evolution predicts the exact opposite of what it actually does it might seem puzzling that Wells could find a quote to support his claim." Other than that, I think it's fine (except for the typo that Alias_StN mentioned). I was able to follow your argument without any trouble. John |
