You should see the house I'm designing for me (one day in the future if I ever settle down...). It has as much square footage of porch as interior (Though it will be quite modest in size. No McMansion for me even if I have the money). Part of the necessity of the porch is that the house won't be airconditioned so I want to be able to have the windows open when it's raining and need and extreme overhanging roof line. The other part is that I love sitting on a porch. The garage is fully detached and will function mostly as a workshop for building kayaks

I remember the old school cottages down at Nags Head built before AC. They all had huge porches for sitting in the breeze. Now they're building big ass flimsy, closed up McMansions. My folks rented one where the windows couldn't be opened.

I worked for a high end landscaping firm in highschool and college so I worked in a lot of gated communities. Those people live walled off from the world. Social structure is set up so they don't even have to acknowledge the existence of blue collar people other than when the blue collar people are working in their yards. You should here the uproar at a new developement going up where the developer dares put in appartments in addition to $300,000+ homes. The potential home buyers don't want the sort that would need or want an apartment living in such close proximity. The appartments aren't even on the same side of the highway as the houses.

Can I ask a really really dumb question. . . .

Aren't schools supposed to be for learning how to read, do math, science, etc?

I want to make a bumper sticker that says:

I don't care if you pray in school. But if you want an A on the test, you should also probably study.
