Well . . . I am writing more about what the purpose of the myth is--and that you cannot "explain it away" with a Natural Disaster [Tm.--Ed.]

Regarding the various wholesale slaughters in the OT--particularly DH and derivative Chronicles--these fit a pattern--the "ban" or herem where you sacrifice people to your god.

Now . . . if you ask about whether or not any of it "happened" well . . . given that current archaeology argues AGAINST the Conquest and all of that . . . the answer would be "no."

Does that mean that what we would now call "Israelis" did not sack someplace at some time? Probably.

From the mythic intent, the "wholesale slaughter"--Act Now! Supplies are Limited!--demonstrates what I listed above. They do not have to be any more "real" than the movies where Stalone and Chuck Norris win Vietnam four or five times!
