There's an interested piece on this here:
http://www.snopes2.com/ (go to search, use words 'pledge' 'skelton') One of the best sites on the net, IMHO. |

I've actually heard the original, from one of the above records. It's rather sappy and boring. Are pro-God-in-the-pledge people really using this to score points for their side? I mean, a guy who dressed like a clown is not exactly the best person to ask about Constitutional issues. Besides, even he recognized the potential for Consitutional conflict. theyeti |

Why not? There were plenty of clowns on the TV spouting off after the Pledge decision.....

I found that because I was looking into freemasonry - my dad was a Mason and I never asked him about it. Anyhow, I was more interested in the fact that Skelton recognized the constitutional issue and was "pushing" the older version in his story.

Interestingly, there's also a Jewish guy who was explaining that they have 4 (or 5?) seperate sets of dishes. One set for meat, one set for dairy. Two more sets that are only used at passover. I'm the ony one that knew the applicable commandment. And no, I don't know why his family follows that one, but not the silly ones about cutting hair and wearing clothes made of different colors. |

Nikolai - I have been a nonbeliever for 20 years, my father died several years ago and my grandmother died last spring. I was going through some of my grandmothers things and started thinking about dad. I am not sure why, but it came up in conversation with mom and she told me that he was unhappy with the way something was going in it. I am pretty sure he still wore his masonic ring, though.
Anyway, I was researching Zorosteranism for a post at SAB and came across some masonic references. I found that "no atheist has ever been a mason" but they seem to take their interest to pre-christianity. There seem to be some conflicting views, but I tend to think thair idea of a creator is a deist type thing that they claim has been going on since ancient times. |
