Thumbs down

Frankly, I don't trust most people with cars, so you can imagine how I feel about gun ownership.

As to violence, I hold a black belt in self-defense. But I think martial arts has me a less violent person since I understand it's real (that is, not televison/movie stuff).

Can I count the squirt-gun I shoot the cat with, when she's demanding food at 2:45 a.m.?

Ok. None, then.

No gun. Never felt the need. Probably never will.

I carried for a few months, after a scary encounter on my way home from the bus stop, but it was more in the nature of a metal teddy bear. I don't think I have the cojones to shoot someone. Unless perhaps they were threatening my child. Then anything goes.

Years ago, purchased a 9mm for self-defence and actually had a chance to use it one. A thief broke into my office on a Sunday, not expecting to find me there -- I was quick enough to draw it and hold him at gunpoint until the police came. At which point I laid the gun down on my desk and proceeded to smack him on the side of his head with a looping right-hand. he went down like a sack of potatoes, I broke a knuckle on my hand -- never healed right either.

Moral of the story? I don't even want to be placed in a position like that again -- nerve-wracking to the point of heart failure. And yet I felt sure I couldn't fire the damn thing...something about taking another life just froze me.

Gun's looong gone. Just not for me.

I own a Chinese SKS. Not a great gun but fun to shoot.

Where'd you get that, QoS? &lt;drool&gt;
</strong>

DB_Hunter gave it to me.

Someday I'm going to have a replica of the Ringwraith leader's sword, and a Klingon bat'leth, and a pony...[/QB]
The Bat'Leth is going to be my next project to make. I have a feeling I am going to become VERY strong over the 6 months or so it takes. Gonna make it of 5140 layered with wrought iron, folded a minimum of 500 times. I am aiming for 1000, but I will be surprised if I hold out that long.
(this process is called pattern-welded, sometimes mistakenly called Damascus. It is very pretty and very strong.)

Once finished, I plan on sending it to Michael Dorn. If he refuses it, it's yours.

That is a telling moment for a gun owner. Most never experience it.
An experienced crook can read you and make a pretty strong guess whether or not you can pull that trigger.

Been there, didn't have to do it. Definately could have, as I had an odd sense of disconnection. I felt emotionless, no reservations to doing what I had to if needed. The would be carjacker apparently sensed this, as he went bone white and waited patiently for me to flag down a cop. I suspect he will never try to jack a car with a knife again, assuming he tries again.

Side note: Flagging down a police car while holding a Colt .45 auto is an experience you will never forget. The Jacksonville, NC police ask no questions, and come out of the car under cover with shotguns. They are not willing to discuss anything until you have discarded the gun. Understandably so.

Despite 9 years in the US Marines, I do not consider myself a violent person. I am quite capable of doing violence on another to save my life or the life of another, but that is far from the same thing.

As shown above, I owned a Colt M1911A1 Officer's model. A cracked slide mount ended it's long career. I am without at this time, but will own another.

In that case you are much better off without it.

Nope. I personally don't feel comfortable having one in my house with small children (and neither does my husband). I also make sure that any family member who babysits our kid(s) at their house has any guns locked up and out of reach.
