Do the Abrahamic religions preprogram people for authoritarian regimes?
Do the Abrahamic religions preprogram people for authoritarian regimes? Good point hal. I am posting this here from part of a thread of mine on Slate. I think it deserves a thread of its own here, free of the ability of some members there to bury threads they don't like. Mog couldn’t make it here, so I'll delete the part directed to him, and re-post it as a new thread. Do the Abrahamic religions, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam create millions of preprogrammed followers of authoritarian dogma? Are some of these people the source of members for other authoritarian regimes? I think that may be the historical wellspring, where the members of the followers of Marxism, and Fascism as well as other authoritarian regimes throughout history have sprung from. No wonder this world is so ripe for authoritarian regimes, and has been for all of our recorded history. With the Abrahamic religions programming millions of people to accept the idea of the authoritarianism of a fairy tale God/religion being good, it's been a cake walk to get people to switch over to other authoritarian regimes, like Marxism, Fascism and the like, when religion fails to deliver on the promises it makes to make life better for all its followers. As long as a belief in the Abrahamic God is included, your cult, sect or denomination will have the same flaw. It will by necessity be authoritarian in nature. We have outgrown the need for some fairy tale God and his authoritarian handlers to control us. Isn't it time for humanity to grow up and leave these fairy tale Gods/religions in the past? Perhaps you should re-word the opening to point out that all these religions preprogram millions and millions of people to accept authoritarian dogma. The results being that the other practitioners of authoritarianism have easy pickings when looking to pick up dissatisfied members for their cause.

Double post. Posted this in the wrong window. I guess we can't change the heading anymore either!

The Baha'i are Abrahamic, and may be as dogmatic (when you get down to brass tacks) as any of their more primitive cousins, but I don't quite think they're authoritarian.
Actually, they can be quite entertaining to watch when confronted with unjust authority, in the way that a splatter movie is entertaining. More than once I've seen a bully mistake their desire to avoid conflict for cowardice. Mistake. A gun to the head seems to bring out the martyr in them. |
