QM isf anything would prove a god of chaos, playing dice with the universe. Not a god who is interested in saving man.

From the OP:
Quote:
In fact, with all of this lifelong, incessant, comprehensive, ubiquitous, all encompassing barrage of dogma, how in this world could anyone (let alone one in seven?! -- 15% of Americans and a larger percent of Europeans profess no religious belief) ever even CONCEIVE of the idea of atheism? Where does it come from? Is it genetic? It is astounding. It's a "miracle."
One thing that has struck me about most atheists is that we came to the conclusion that there doesn't seem to be a god individually (unless you were never indoctrinated in a god belief in the first place). Nobody tried to convince us. We didn't happen to come across a gathering of atheists and listened and said "Oh, of course!" Many of us found ourselves uneasy with this thought initially because it was against all we had been told.
Yet, over time, experience and reflection reinforced our sense of godlessness. For some of us, many years passed before we found someone else with the same outlook.

Maybe if theists understood this sort of experience, they wouldn't try so hard to convince us of the error of our ways. They would see how futile that would be.

Well said, openeyes. I figure it took me seven years to go atheist. Not really a choice if one were to be honest, you just believe what you percieve to be true. Most atheists aren't atheists by specific choosing but rather by categorical fact.
