Radiometric carbon dating and other dating systems
Any feedback is helpful for this one. I've been trying to organize my argument in reference to the date of the earth. Pretty much the two dominant claims are that Earth is millions of years old, or several thousand. (I've heard 10,000 and 11,000, but I'm not sure of what the consensus is for creationists) I've read extrapolating the magnetic field more than 10,000 years predicts a flow so vast, that the Earth's structure couldn't survuve the heat produced. (Oh how I wish I would have stayed in engineering to learn the physics!!!) All I'm hoping is that someone can address this claim, since it would seriously hurt my ability to address certain issues of age. Here are a few issues of concern
The Great Flood- Although I agree with the ideas of it being a myth, there has been muchly touted evidence that the Egyptian dynasties were in full effect during the proposed flood time. I would like to know how the approximated time for the flood was estimated/determined. Also, I am needing to know how to address the Egyptian issue. Although I can agree with it, I would feel more comfortable in knowing how this was determined (that the Egyptians we present when the flood was to have occurred). What's critical to me is the efficiency or dating systems. I'd like to know about how they work, and what makes them reliable. I know there's not always consensus on making hard numbers stick, but what makes the range definitive? Sumerian texts- I'm also wanting to know how old these are, where can they be read and how was the age determined for these as well. Are they the oldest script/text available? If not, what scripts/texts are? What are the oldest artifacts? What dating techniques and tools were used to determine their age and why do they work? I apologize if I'm verbose or redundant. It's just that this is very important to me, so I'm hoping to stress the ideas I'm trying to convey. Thank you all |

You'll probably get a better response in E/C so I'm moving it there.
