I'm actually willing to accept that there are scholars who are experts in a given field and their opinion is far more informed than mine.
However, when "historians" are cited as accepting a historical jesus and then have no more evidence than the average apologist I do become suspicious of their "expertise." |

But the appeal to authority itself is symptomatic of pandering a fallacy that here now is called ad vericundiam. It is useful in public debates where the conclusion is not self evident and put's a question-mark behind his PhD.

Well Toto, if for 2000 they have been debating over the same thing and have not found a solution, and are about to shift towards 'mythicism' as popular train of thought, it does not show much insight by the whole lot of them, Universities, librairies and archeologist and all.

You, in contrast, state your opinions as if well known and acknowledged by everyone worth citing--but you never cite anyone unless intensely pressed post-after-post. The difference between you and aa is that you assert you know it all and it may turn out that some top scholars agree vaguely with you whereas aa is as dogmatic but rarely says what anyone agrees with (much less top scholars). It's as if you're a stopped clock that's right twice a day and aa isn't because he denounces anyone who thinks he agrees with aa. |
