Default Are there lots of debates about trivial matters at this forum?

This forum is definitely beneficial, but aren't there lots of debates that don't really make any difference no matter who is right?

Funny, I think that of most of your threads.

Does Beethoven matter? If all his works were lost, would that make any substantial difference in how you live your life?

So too are the academic discussions here (well, used to be here, they seemed to have fallen off lately, degenerated into an epistemological whirlpool and public feeding frenzy) of importance to some people.

The more important question is - why do people like you attach so much self importance that you think that others' life work is unimportant? Who do you think you are? God?

How rude.

And what may I ask does that have to do with the topic question? I am only one poster at this forum. Obviously, the topic question is about all of the posters at this forum.

Edit: I just read some of your past posts, and I read the following:

Take the Christian fundies - they try to impose their own set of beliefs on everyone else, sometimes disrupting spiritual convictions. Fundamentalism Christianity drives away many non-Christians who have the potential for Christian belief, it's idolatrous in worshiping a book, and it constantly engages in aggression and offenses.
I do not wish to squabble with anyone who has those opinions. My main reason for debating is to oppose fundamentalist Christianity. So, I suggest that you and I try to get along and realize that both of us are making the best contributions that we know how to make to oppose fundamentalist Christianity.

Actually that post was a sarcastic reply to afdave who said that liberal Christianity (if I recall) was spiritual terrorism. Or at least I think it was afdave, and it might have been atheism that was spiritual terrorism - I can't remember now. Who cares, anyway?

But it's all in good fun, like a pickup game of road hockey.

When religious apologists aren't handy, we sharpen our wits against each other.

Sometimes we even learn something.

So, I say keep the debates going.

Is a debate about whether there are trivial debates here itself rather trivial?

And is a debate about whether a debate about whether there are trivial debates here is trivial or not also rather trivial?

And is a debate about whether a debate about whether a debate about whether there are trivial debates here is trivial is also trivial in itself also rather trivial?

Help! I'm stuck in an infinite self-referential regress!

Fundamentalist christianity and indeed all of the various
forms of christianity were funnelled through the "Councils"
of Antioch and of Nicaea.

Prior to these events, we have no evidence for the existence
of christianity with the exception of the literature which was
lavishly published by Constantine, which included all materials
tendered by Eusebius, the new testament, and all non-canonical
texts.

Appeal to authority is sourced to Constantine, who implemented
and perpetrated upon the Roman emperor, partly using his role
of Pontifex Maximus, a new emperor cult. This one was unique,
in that it was invented for the purpose of being different to
the traditional "Greco-Roman" or "Hellenic" religions extant,
which of course included Judaism, but untainted.

Christianity is founded on a pseudo-history.

Best wishes,

Pete
