Buried vs laid in a tomb
If Jesus' body was laid in the tomb, would it have been acceptable for the gospels to have said he was "buried", as Paul does? The gospels never say Jesus was buried. Paul says Jesus was buried. I think of being buried as meaning covered up with dirt.

The author of Acts 2:29 used "buried" to refer to placement in a "sepulchre" so I would guess there is no incompatibility.

I might point out that even in English burying the dead does not necessarily imply dirt; one can be buried in a mausoleum, for example, above the ground (see this page about St. Joseph Cemetary for an instance of the English phrase buried in a mausoleum). Ben. |
