Default paganism, horus and jesus [yet another Zeistgeist reference]

on youtube yeserday I saw a video saying that the Egypian god we call horus in mythology has a number of similarities tojesus.

It is listed that he was allegedly born on decembe the 25th, of a virgin, under a star in the east (sirius), visited by 3 kigs (stars from orions elt which pointed wo the rising place of the sun on deceber the 25th), he was said to teach as a jeuvenile, to have ben baptised and begun a ministry, cruchfied, bried for3days, risen from the dead.

I have tried to cross reference this tale on wikipedia butit is not replicated.

Here is theurl for the youube vid:

I imagine that I might have been taken in by the assurance and professional documentary style of the presentation....???

there are a stagering amount of similarities between the western religions, while this particular example may not be completely accurate the majority of western monotheisms are the same story with different names for the characters.

It's bunk. The phrase "too good to be true" should occur to you. The deity supposed to be described in this way varies, but none of it is true.

JW:
Are you referring to Horus or Jesus?

Belief without evidence in what is told by one who speaks without knowledge, of things without parallel.

Even if there are no similarities between Jesus and Horus, the phrase "too good to be true" must have occurred to you with respect to Jesus.

Origen in De Principiis
Quote:
The particular points clearly delivered in the teaching of the apostles are as follow:—

Secondly, That Jesus Christ Himself, who came (into the world), was born of the Father before all creatures;

That, after He had been the servant of the Father in the creation of all things— For by Him were all things made — He in the last times, divesting Himself (of His glory), became a man, and was incarnate although God, and while made a man remained the God which He was;

That He assumed a body like to our own, differing in this respect only, that it was born of a virgin and of the Holy Spirit:

That this Jesus Christ was truly[ born, and did truly suffer, and did not endure this death common (to man) in appearance only, but did truly die;

That He did truly rise from the dead; and that after His resurrection He conversed with His disciples, and was taken up (into heaven).
But, upon reflection, it has occurred to me, there are similarities between Jesus and Horus, their descriptions are all "too good to be true".

LukeS, the matter can be resolved by finding the most relevant similarities in the early documents and archaeological inscriptions on Horus. If the similarities are present in the earliest sources on the Horus myth, then the argument has merit. But, if the earliest places you can find those similarities are in the polemical anti-religious writings of the 19th and 20th century who don't give their sources, then obviously they are suspect. I looked into this matter already, and I can save you the time and tell you it is bullshit. I challenge anyone who accepts the theory to present the evidence.

For the most part it's bullshit. But a lot of gods associated with the sun were born on Dec 25th. That's the day of the solstice - the most important day for any sun-god. But even that's unimportant... Jesus being born on Dec 25th didn't happen until after it was made the official religion of Rome.

Hi folks - please read the thread stickied at the top of this forum - the title is Please Read Before Starting a New Thread on Prophecy or other overworn topics .

It says there:
Quote:
All posts that consist only of a link to the youtube video of Zeitgeist will be removed as spam. For an actual discussion of Zeitgeist, please refer to this thread Zeitgeist Part I companion guide.
Now it is true that LukeS posted more than a link, but you can see that this has just been another chance for everyone to restate their position on this topic.

This will be closed.
