No, I consider the Sumerian account of it to be another viewpoint from the people that came after Noah.

A small grammatical observation:

The writer uses "the Babble", which should indicate to you that the writer purports to be dealing with an item which is already known -- that's the importance of "the". As the item "Babble" hasn't already been introduced, the writer is apparently signalling that the item "Babble" is unique. Therefore, it is probably not appropriate to talk of "a Babble", which suggests that there is more than one Babble. Further, one should suspect that the writer believes his/her reader should know the precise reference of the term "the Babble".

Perhaps you might find 1984 edifying and even accept the bullet.

I began studying and reading the Torah when I was very young, and I didn't grow up to be a homicidal maniac. In fact, I grew up to be against the immoral things of life ( lying, cussing, promiscuous sex, war etc.)
So would you let your kids go see Anthropophagous? {If you don't know, it's a VERY violent horror film; one scene has the lead villain, a cannibal, chewing his guts out after being impaled on a barb-wire fence}

There are many things in the Bible that are just as gory; from the rivers of blood in Revelation to the detailed instructions of how to ritually sacrifice animals, to descriptions of Hell; and there are quite a few vivid descriptions of sex in the Bible, as well.

I never said to ban the Bible; but you would do good to not tell your children about the grotesque horrors of Revelation or Genesis, for example. And it probably wouldn't hurt kids; but there is a chance.

Simply put, there have been a large number of Christian serial killers who actually thought they were doing God's work; and nearly all of them grew up in household environments where God's "wrath" was stressed.

Speaking of hypocrites, look at Christians first. Many are all for the censorship of music & films {Remember the immense number of Christians protesting outside of Marilyn Manson concerts in 1996-1999?} that contain violence and/or sex, but don't look at their own Bible. They are the hypocrites; they won't let filth in music or film brought into their homes, when they have a book in their homes that has more than any song or movie. I'm not saying the Bible is filthy; but you can't try to censor or ban one thing and not another that is just as bad, if not worse.

Again, another, shooting at the wrong targets. The book is a book. Crucifiction did not advocate what Magus55 is imputing.

Films do come with a rating and a parent's job is to be guardian of their children. I personally wouldn't advocate the watching of most films as I don't appreciate the morality behind them, but then children will be exposed to these things one way or another. Parents need to take an active balanced and understanding role in the education of children. Saying read this or watch that is not sufficient.

Magus55 is happy to say what is and what is not hypocrisy. I am very happy that he has not grown up to be a homicidal maniac. I don't see too much to bother over "lying, cussing, promiscuous sex", everything in moderation and as long as no harm is done. Lying can be just as positive as people claim it to be negative -- you know, "white lies" 'n'all. Cussing is a valid means of showing frustration or anger, and it's better out than in. Promiscuous sex, well, my mother's idea of "promiscuous" is different from mine and mine different from that of the next generation. There is nothing wrong with sex be it labelled one thing or another, but there is something wrong with people attempting to impose their mores over another and not let that other develop some objective ground on which to develop an individual understanding of ethics and ethical problems.

It always comes down to imposers, not what they are imposing, as the source of the problems that this topic is flirting around.

Yep, me too! Except it made me an atheist. In fact, I grew up to be against the immoral things of life (mysoginism, slavery, intolerance, war, etc).

Magus55 may be hung up on hypocrisy. There's no need to follow suit.

I'd say that most xians take little interest in the contents of the Hebrew bible (which is rudely called the "old testament"), so on that count alone, you can't call it hypocrisy.

Fair enough, I supose. I retract my previous statement.

What I note, beside the different outcomes, is the general difference in the two lists of the "immoral things of life". And I'm with you, Vick'.

Probably not.

As spin pointed out, there is a huge difference between reading words on paper, and watching a graphic movie with special effects to enhance the violent and horror effect. The rivers of blood in Revelation are hardly gory. The rivers turn blood. People don't bleed into them to make them blood. The Egyptian plague in Exodus was the same thing. Rivers turned to blood by the power of God, so it couldn't be used. And I hardly consider the Biblical references to sex to be all that traumatizing. As i pointed out regarding another thread on this board, most people here have no problem showing their young kids pornography. Yet 3000 year old references to sex, where the modern day words aren't even used is gory and traumatizing? Again, hypocrisy.

I don't consider there to be grotesque horrors in Revelation. Certaintly nothing more than children are gonna find out about in everyday life without reading the Bible. You don't even need to read the Bible to find out about the 4 Horseman of Apocolypse. Also keep in mind that Revelation is highly symbolic and metaphoric. Revelation also has the most detailed description of Heaven in it.

And? Thats their problem and their parents problem for teaching against the Bible ( recall thou shalt not murder?). Not Christianity's fault.

The disgusting things that go on in modern day, and are actually accepted and encouraged have absolutely no comparison to the Bible. Movies and song are expressly written to be violent, gory, offensive etc. The Bible is a history book. History had bloody, violent times. The Bible just records them. Do you think we should ban children from ever reading a book about war or the holocaust? WWII and the Holocaust were far more gory and violent then the Bible.

Israel didn't exist in Noah's day. Noah however did predate Mesopotamia (or He was born there depending on which era of Mesopotamia you're referring to - Noah was before Sumeria). Abraham is generally believed to have lived in Ur, Sumeria, and Abraham is several generations after Noah.
