Exodus, for Pastor Mark and others
O.K., I'm still a newbie in this forum, so go slowly and assume no knowledge.
My understanding is that recent archeological research seems to indicate that the Jews were not slaves in Egypt, that God did not lead them out of bondage with an outstretched hand, that they did not escape via the Red (or Reed) sea, that they did not wander in the desert for 40 years, and did not go one to conquer Canaan. Is this correct or not? Pastor Mark: Do you believe that the archeological evidence supports the exodus of the Jews in Egypt? Or do you agree that the bondage and exodus did not occur? Other Christians and Jews: Your position? Thank you. |

The research is not that recent. The Bible Unearthed is the standard reference.
A few years ago, a number of Jewish religious leaders faced up to this fact. You might refer to this article from Ha'aretz: Deconstructing the walls of Jericho |

Correct.

Essentially correct, according to The Bible Unearthed by Finkelstein and Silberman. It's an interesting read, btw, you should have a copy. Oh, and the story claims that they wandered/camped in the desert for 40 years, until everyone who originally was alive at the start of the Exodus was dead. |
