Now I'm not a historian, so forgive me for being a bit suspicious about any journal entitled, Perspectives on Science and Christian Faith. In a 1987 article therein (here), Lindberg and Numbers state,

This is the second time I've had this paper thrown at me so it is time to ask someone who knows history better than I (which is mostly everyone).

(1) Is Andrew Dickson White's "famous screed" of such quality that it is "unmistakable that he was intentionally deceptive for the reader's" own good?

(2) What the hell is Perspectives on Science and Christian Faith? Is this a reputable journal in the history of science? Is it a Christian journal? (The two not necessarily being mutually exclusive.)

(3) Does science hinder the "progress" of religion? What exactly would that progress be?

(4) Has Christianity ever taught that it is OK to lie in order to gain converts?
