Default PEANUT GALLERY: notapadawan vs. Bible John - Is the KJV the best English translation?

This thread has been set up to provide a Peanut Gallery for a FORMAL DEBATE between notapadawan and Bible John who will debate the following resolution:

"Resolved: the KJV is the superior English translation and should be the Bible translation used by English speaking Christians everywhere."

notapadawan will affirm and Bible John will oppose. The debate will have 4 rounds and notapadawan will go first.

We ask that the formal debate participants refrain from posting in the Peanut Gallery until after the debate is over.

Enjoy the debate!

It's there. Click on where it says "Peanut Gallery" in the second last sentence.

Next formal debate...

"Is shooting yourself in the foot good or bad, generally."

In the spirit of the current debate, the next one should actually be

"Is a '45 the best gun with which to shoot yourself in the foot?"

This type of comment (mild by IIDB standards) shows why such a debate as this, in a skeptic and infidel milieu, is questionable. The side-comments will be from folks who ostensibly don't even believe in God in any sense and even less that He proclaims His word in scriptures, in the written word, the Bible.

Inspiration and preservation of the word of God are not even on the radar of a lot of the commentators.

And worse, and ironic, some would actually hope to demonstrate that the corrupt text full of errors (modern versions) are "original" or "real". Against the historic Bible. As we see on IIDB frequently there is an unholy alliance, skeptics pseudo-embracing for convenience (actually their own theories can be radically different) textual theories that promote a minority errant and blunderama alexandrian text. The text that hopes to divert some attention away from the historic Bible, the TR-based Bibles including the King James Bible in English.

That unholy alliance on IIDB puts the whole discussion upside down.

The basic paradigmic issues can barely be addressed in this environment in any way that is sensible and succinct and understandable.

Perhaps there will be some gems nonetheless, perhaps some will learn, or at least be prodded to study. However a number of solid Christian believers, well versed on the issues, passed on the "opportunity" to have this debate here, even after having similar discussions on boards where at least there was generally a fundamental understanding that, in some sense, the Bible is the word of God.

Proverbs 30:5
Every word of God is pure:
he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

Shalom,
Steven

praexus, everyone with half a brain knows the King James Version is not a good translation by any rational judgment. I stay away from this part of the forums, but just so you know, 99% of Christians know that its a bad translation. And 100% of other informed people.
