In a book, though I can locate no primary source for the claim.

The claim made is that Isu Chrestos was the name of the deity used in the Marcionite version of the Pauline epistles.

The inscription "Isu Chrestos" can still be seen on the oldest surviving Christian "Synagogue" in Syria.

The oldest Christian church found by archaeologists was Marcionite, located in Syria and dating from 318 CE. The inscription on this synagogue is dedicated to "The Lord and Savior ISU CHRESTOS."

Jeffery, Ben,
A quick OT, if you don't mind.

To your knowledge, did Justin ever accuse Marcion of tampering with the scriptures?

To my knowledge, the wall of a synagogue (?) is not a MS witness to the text of the NT, let alone a translation of a MS witness.

Now lets see some evidence that the claim above is true.

Umm, it is a url to where you can purchase the book...

I stated that I could not corroborate the claim, re: the Syrian archeological find.

Have you heard of such a find?

It appears not, at least not directly.

See here for Justin's references to Marcion.

Why do you ask?

It contains a URL to a site where one can purchase a book on Marcion that is edited by an apparent crank and is published by a vanity press.

No. But that does not mean a thing. But why would followers of the rabidly ant-Jewish Marcion have a synagogue??

Good question! Maybe that is what the author decided to call it, as I doubt it had a sign saying "Marcion's Synagogue and Heretical Emporium" enscribed on the entrance...
