I came across this interesting article about the origins of Yahweh.

His argument is that Yahweh is a conflation of several near eastern gods. These being Ea/Enki, Yam/Yaw, Bull El and Ba'al Hadad plus some minor influences from gods like Enlil.

It is a very good article if you are inclined to read it.

Possibly, but no-one really knows. But, Hebrew is conducive to such plays on words as I understand it, since it lacks written vowels.

I don't know a lick of Hebrew, but have seen it stated that 'Ashera' can be interpreted to be in the middle of "I am who am".
