There is some debate about whether it would have been pronounced this way. It may have involved a Y sound rather than an ee sound.
Firstly it is an Hebrew name and not an Aramaic one. As the name seems to have been pronounced over the centuries in Hebrew with a y (possible Galilean alternatives not withstanding) that may be important to consider.

At some stage Assyrians began to pronounce the Yudh as ee and not y. We know this from the diacretic marking system which places a dot under the Yudh, signifying an ee sound.
This marking system did not come into use until well after the time in which Jesus is reported as living so it is a bit difficult to know exactly when this happened.
Also the Maronites , for example still pronounce it with a y sound, so the ee sound may just be a later pronunciation from the east.
