Default Sodom and Gomorrah Get Greasy

The ancient Greeks were quite tolerant of male homosexuality, even encouraging it at time. They had a thriving civilization, with philosophy and culture which lives on to this very day in Western civilization. They had some hard times, but they managed to get through them, even fending off a couple of nasty invasions by the Persians.

Sodom and Gomorrah, two minor cities, were completely destroyed with fire from the sky for being tolerant of homosexuality.

It's not that God works in mysterious ways that we have so much trouble with. It's his lack of consistancy.

Not really a lack of consistancy but a lack of basic reading skills.

(1) God promised Abraham that if he could find even TEN upright persons in Sodom, He would spare it. Instead he found a town run by a biker gang of ass-rapists.

(2) The Greeks, while tolerant of gays, were for the most part heterosexuals, maintaining traditions of marriage and family values, which continues to this day. To imply that Greeks were all 'gay' is just a racial slur.

(3) God didn't destroy Sodom and Gommorah for 'gay tolerance', but because they were thoroughly depraved, if we are going by the only historical text that discusses the case.

Three strikes and you're out.

Funny story, back from my days as a tot when I was dragged off to Baptist Sunday school every week.

The budding linguist in me wondered whether our word sodium was derrived from the name of the city Sodom, based on the unfortunate end of Mrs. Lot. (Nowadays, I see more than a little Orpheus in this story.)

The most astonishing part of this story to me, though, is that Lot willingly offers to let the townsfolk rape his two young daughters in exchange for the safety of the travelers. And whether out of unfulfilled passion, grief for the death of their mother, or revenge, the two daughters end up raping Lot after the destruction of the cities. Neither of them is punished for her indiscretion.

So, in sum: homosexuality is wrong, but heterosexual rape and incest are OK.

Thus endeth today's lesson.

Alright! Giggidy Giggidy! ...I mean, oh.

Maybe your 'cunning linguist' was prejudiced by his oral preferences.

ROFLMFAO!!! You're accusing me of having poor reading skills and at the same time making these ad hominem attacks against me!

Where did I ever say that most of the Greeks were homosexuals? Let me re-read my OP. Hummm, time should read "times," but it never says that most Greeks were gay. That only appears in your post, Nazaroo.

Keep in mind that is is the Christians who claim that Sodom and Gommorah were destroyed for tolerating homosexuality, not me. Just as WBC claims the US is suffering for being too "tolerant" of gays.

I didn't say you 'said' but that you "implied". But lets move on:

Your generic 'paint with a wide brush' epithet "the Christians" is another case of over-generalization. You yourself should know that most Christians, meaning 99% of Christians, aren't members of the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC), and don't ascribe to their unique doctrines.

The WBC does indeed condemn the USA for being "fag-enabling fools", but this is not their only evidence or complaint concerning the USA's longstanding, widespread, and deeply entrenched corruption.

And frankly, most Christians would agree there is a lot of truth to the many charges WBC has made against the USA.

Lets look at a few recent evidences: 9/11, if not an outright attack upon the USA citizenry by the Pentagon, was certainly the biggest and most horrific case of incompetance in the history of North America.

Then you have Bush and the blatantly gay Republican Party pretending to be 'Christian' to get the vote, but then plunging the country into another senseless and off-target "Vietnam" (Iraq).

I think WBC has a good case that New Orleans was a modern 'type' for Sodom, and that if there is a God, He surely sent Katrina as a very loud wakeup call.

So good luck pretending everything is 'alrighty then'.

It's been a while since I heard a good 9/11 conspiracy. And it's always the Canadians coming up with them.
