Who makes the claim of Omnimax?
In the Bible, we hear about God being infinitely powerful, benevolent, omnisentient, omnibenevolent, and all this great and powerful things. The question is though... who is telling us this?
Are these claims coming from the authors, commenting on God? Or is God standing over these Biblical author's shoulders and basically saying "Hey, John, don't forget to mention how benevolent, all-knowing, all-powerful, and totally freakin' awesome I am"? Either way, this leads to problems. If these claims are the observation of the author, then we have no real reason to believe that he knows God is omnimax (I'll use this term for the sake of brevity). He could just as easily be saying all these amazing things because he is shocked by what he has witnessed (be it a genuine spiritual experience or otherwise). If it is God making these claims of himself, then there's still the issue of whether we can trust them. It may not even be "God" talking at all, but Satan, tricking people into worshipping a God that hates to be worshipped. Or it could be God, but he may be overstating his abilities. Or perhaps he is an underling of God, not neccesarily evil, but boastful enough to take credit for all existence. Any number of things. What are people's thoughts on this? |
