Unmasking
New Scientist 31 July p 21 reports development of an analytical tool to evaluate authorship.
Koppel and Schler of Bar-llan University Ramat-Gan Israel measure "hundreds of features of the..text, such as frequency of words, sentence length and grammatical patterns". They were able to ascertain documents that were thought to be by different authors were in fact written by one person. The technique, which uses iteratiion and editing out obvious differences to concentrate on the remaining text, is called "unmasking." |

The link didn't work for me, Clivedurdle.
Are they using this mostly for biblical and other religious texts? I'm wondering how reliable it would be. |

It's fine my end - opens as an adobe pdf file - it may have downloaded to your desk top.
It is a new technique that has not been done on many documents yet but is giving very interesting results where it has been used. |
