Other gospels
Greetings all! I have a question about the other gospels out there, such as the Gospel of Thomas (I believe they are called 'apocrypha'). Where can I get a hold of them? Are they in book form somewhere, or are they on the 'Net?
Any help you could give would be great. Related to this: are there even more problems/inconsistencies within these lost gospels, especially when added to the "accepted" gospels? Thanks again! -alex "Imagine" |

The Gospel Of Thomas is part of a cache of books known as The Nag Hammadi Library found hidden in Egypt in 1945. These are considered Gnostic texts. You can find it in “The Nag Hammadi Library edited by James M. Robinson and in “The Other Bible“ edited by Willis Barnstone. |

Thomas is NOT a gnostic txt. It was used by the Gnostics which shows where it went, not where it came from.
All Gospels are available, more or less, online: http://www.earlychristianwritings.com/ This is your best bet for the Gospel of THomas: http://www.misericordia.edu/users/da...omas/Trans.htm If you want ocmmentary on Thomas go with Valantasis or Davies and for questions of dependent on NT works go with Patterson's the Gospel of Thomas and Jesus. I have 3 articles on Thomas up (and about 14 more that need tp be transferred online): Why it isn't in the Bible. http://www.after-hourz.net/ri/gthomascanon.html Does GThomas Hate Women (Saying 114 and misogny)? http://www.after-hourz.net/ri/gthomas114.html Wisdom in Corinth (Thomas-like beliefs in Corinthains ca. 50 C.E.) http://www.after-hourz.net/ri/wisdomincorinth.html THe middle link offers some insight into the mindset behind the Gospel of THomas and its final composition, In other words, a means to interpret Thomas which "goes back to the beginning". I think GThomas was compiled (and most of its material written) when an ebionistic Christian sect was turning Gnostic. As I explained on that page:
