No, I'm actually a demon sent to tempt you. Sheesh. What I'm asking you is to prove your point, and outlining one particular way (and IMO, the best way) to do so, since you're so out of your depth.

I can't establish all that and how do I know I need to just because Joel says so well who is Joel? Does he really exist? And if he does prove it.
Proving that a city existed during a specific period is hardly difficult or controversial as a test of your theory. Your orthogonal solipsist point is quite silly, and I presume, an attempt to veer off-topic so you don't have to answer the point at hand.
Quote:
Joel how do I know what you have typed is truth? It is rather fancy and alot of times I take people at their word.
I have been quoting from Neils Peter Lemche (1998), The Prelude to Israel's Past: Backgrounds and Beginnings of Israelite History and Identity, translated by E.F. Maniscalco, Hendrickson Publishers. This is what we call a reference. You can see that this book exists since if you were to click on this link here at Amazon and order it, it would magically appear at your doorstep a couple of weeks later, and you could see whether what I typed from pages 55-56 and 138-139 are accurate. You could then cross reference it with other titles, for example, in the Recommended Reading list, in which I suggested many of the archaeology titles there in the first place. Then you can decide for yourself whether it is true or not.
Quote:
I do know this that in Samuel it speaks about the bronze age and the Philistines and the Israelites getting weapons from them. I also know bronze is before iron but whether you speak truth or even exist I have no way of knowing. You could be some ghost.
You need to see a psychiatrist if you are actually seriously speculating on that. After that, you need to catch up with about 100 years of Biblical scholarship.

You'll need to start new threads in a different forum because it's not possible to start threads in the ~Elsewhere~ forum any more.

You can start threads about your experiences of God in General Religious Discussions.

The BC&A forum focuses on the Bible and archaeological evidence. When that was the focus of this thread, it belonged there, but not when it became about your experiences of God.

I think I am being unjustly picked on here. Yes lets all pick on the Christian. Look I want to continue with the thread but Kosh did ask. Why don't you tell him he is disruoptive and getting us off track and while your at it use the f****** word. Should I ignore Kosh and be mean? Should I ignore you and be mean? You know no one has a problem with ignoring a Christian and being mean!
If you talk about God anywhere on IIDB it's likely you are going to feel 'picked on' by some people. That's the reality of this being an atheist board.

If someone asks you a question you know is off-topic, like Kosh did, you can start a new thread with the answer and link to it from the current thread, saying "I put the answer here [link] rather than take this thread further off-topic". That's how you can avoid being mean.

But to be fair to Kosh, all he (?) did was ask a follow-up question about something you'd written. So if his question was off-topic your comments he was asking the question about must have been off-topic also.

Having a thread moved doesn't necessarily mean you're 'in trouble'. It means that as a group, the people posting on it have not kept it on-topic. You certainly aren't the only one who posted off-topic things in here - off-topic while it was in the BC&A forum, that is.

Anyway I hope you have a good day today, hd

His typing proves he exists. People who don't exist can't type posts!

Simple really. You are kind of silly.
Um... no. Totally wrong.

People here are trying to invalidate the bible because you seem to think it is a legitimate history book, no? You can believe that all you like, but it's obvious that atheists do not.. if we believed it was the literal truth we would not be atheists.

You think we need to prove it wrong, we think it was never proved right in the first place. There are many things in the bible that obviously never happened, like the Great Flood - The empire of Egypt existed before, during, and after the purported time of it, and they didn't notice.

In short, the only way to tell what's fiction and what's not in the bible is independent factual corroboration.

We're not lashing out against your nonexistent god, we're trying to have a rational argument. Kay?

Yes. That is the problem. Would you walk into a synogogue and eat bacon? Would you walk into your church and burn a cross? Would you walk into a biker bar and say 'harley davidson sucks'? No, you would not, because the bikers, christians, and jews would find these acts pointlessly offensive. Plus the bikers are just scary.

Giving emotional "arguments" like 'I'll pray for you', 'I just know god exists', 'god is watching you', 'god exists because he did x for me', 'god answers my prayers' and such isn't helping you or us. It is pointlessly offensive, looks smug and arrogant, doesn't convince anyone, is AGAINST THE RULES, and is just about the best thread-derailing weapon you could deploy on this board. ( anarchism seems to be the other. )

I don't think it's against the rules except on the Community Forums, is it?

Helen is absolutely correct. The Secular Community Forums are protected from preaching or the promotion of religion in order to provide a safe environment for nontheists to gather. The Philosophical and General Discussion forums have no such strictures, and with good reason. Talk amongst yourselves can get a bit old.

For an interesting discussion of the place of religious perspectives on IIDB, see Suggestion in the ICR.

It seems I overstated my case somewhat. Agreed, it is not strictly against the rules except in forums where that rule is specificly stated. I still believe it is impolite and pointless, however.

What I meant Helen is that they can move my posts here. I don't take it to heart really.

Thanks Helen. I am listening to Huey Lewis and the News. Yes it is true I am so happy to be stuck with you and yes I can see your so happy to be stuck with me. I interjeted some lyricks just because I can. and anyone can think I am nuts if they want too.

Gosh Helen am I the only one who has experiences of God? Man I am a modern day Noah.

I don't feel picked on Helen just unique and that is a good place to be. WOW!!!! God keep those experiences coming. God has entered my life and guess what He is tearing down some barriers and I think it is threateningn to people not me. I am used to storms.

Gosh I did that with this thread and the person I started it for did not even show up for the Banquet...so I sent out and found others to share in the feast. Remember this from the Bible, Helen? You are a good person helen and thanks for the advice.

What I wrote to Kosh is absolute truth. Yes it is. And I was glad to share it with him. No jokes. No puns involved. God saw fit to interceed and save me and all I did was cuss him out while walking down a hi way with blood streaming down my face and cars going by without stopping. At that momnent I could not believe what I was living was real. It knocks you back a few steps.

Thank you Helen. You inject good sense into this conversation. I apreciate your comments very much and hope you are doing well in your life. I saved your site and want to go back when I have some time to look at it. Today I have a counselor appointment and my husband is suppose to show up. Also talked to my lawyer. Found out the fees.

[Qoute]Anyway I hope you have a good day today, hd

Helen[/QUOTE]

I didn't say anything about you being the only one who has had experiences of God. Your response is not relevant to my comment even though you posted it after my comment, as if it was connected with it. When you respond this way people do get confused.

I was responding to what you wrote yesterday - would you read it again? Here it is: hd:I think I am being unjustly picked on here. Yes lets all pick on the Christian.

Did you forget you wrote about being picked on, just yesterday?

Anyway, I'm glad if you don't feel that way any more

On the whole yes I am, thanks
