-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Originally posted by hope's daughter I have documented proof. The Bible is historical and well documented. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The bible is full of contradictions and inaccuracies. There was no mass exodus of the Hebrews. i did not want to disrupt the flow of the Jesus thread so I made a separate thread with the posting I promised you. Hope you enjoy reading this. There is an actual book called the Atheist Handbook. From 'The answer to the Atheist's Handbook': Delivery of the Jews from Egyptian Slavery The Bible says the the Jews were slaves in Egypt, but that God delivered them from bondage with a mighty hand, Doing miracles for them. The Egyptians who pursued them were drowned in the Red Sea. The Biblical story is surely dangerous for slaveholders. It might suggest to slaves, to men who live under a dictatorship, that God is in favor of the emancipation of slaves. Therefore, this page of history has to be wiped out, too. The authors of The Atheist Handbook graciously assure us that all this is sheer fiction. They write: For a century and a half, there have been archeological excavations in Egypt which were made with great thoroughness, but in a good number of monuments which were discovered, in the multitude of inscriptions which have been deciphered, in pictorial images and those of other nature, there is nothing to confirm the Biblical legend. Is it right for them to make such criticism of the Bible? My honorable opponents again show a lack of archeological knowledge They do not know about the inscribed stone of -the time Ramses II. found at Beisan in 1923, stating that he employed captive Semites (in the Tell-el-Amarna tablets the Hebrews under the name "Khabiri") to build a city named after him....to be continued |

Funny, the only hits I found searching for that stone came up with christian websites. The fact is that there is NO evidence for a group of former hebrew slaves wandering around for forty years (and how on earth did they manage that anyways, it's not that big a region). The fact that the Egyptians completely missed noticing when one of their pharohs drowned in the ocean doesn't help your c ase either. They also forgot to record that pesky flood, but that's a separate issue entirely. Next!

hope's daughter,
This is not a general religious discussion. This is clearly a Biblical Criticism and History topic. I am moving this thread to the appropriate forum. |

If there was not an exodus, what is the real history of that people at that time? Were they really in Egypt? How was Moses able to persuade them to yahweh? And something that just came to mind, how did whitey become a Jew? [/hijack] |

Watch it! You will be declared excommunicate and consigned to his Ignore List! Of course, you will have good company there. Anyways, to answer your question, check out the book on Biblical Archeology in the Recommended Reading. It gives good basic answers to "what" actually happened. Thomas Thompson has a good book, A Mythic Past which also details some of the current theories as to "what" was the history of Israel. The Bible Unearthed is shorter but not nearly as complete. --J.D. |
