Default That Devil's new #: 616

A newly discovered fragment of the oldest surviving copy of the New Testament indicates that, as far as the Antichrist goes, theologians, scholars, heavy metal groups, and television evangelists have got the wrong number. Instead of 666, it's actually the far less ominous 616.
We've been getting it all wrong!!!

I found it under the weird news articles from snopes. I don't think they scan the articles for truthfulness, though. I hope it is real, cause that is wicked funny. :devil3:

Hahaha.

What I find most interesting is that it's a number Christians used for people they were going to attack. I thought Christians weren't supposed to do that!

Opportunities abound here. suppose, for example, that they discover what Jesus had really said:
"Do unto others, before they do unto you."
Any other suggestions?

My preferred vague interpretation is that the mark of the beast is, in fact, 641, plus or minus 25 tolerance. Gives a whole spectrum of weird fundy interpretations some decent claims. :P

That's a good approach. I think it would be overtly judgemental to single out 616 or 666. Perhaps bringing a standard deviation into the picture would make a system better able to detect the beast.

The 666 versus 616 controversy has been raging for a long time. I first heard about it 30 years ago.

It all comes down to whether you're thinking Latin or Hebrew. NRWN QSR or NRW QSR.
