3 days and 3 nights
http://christiancadre.blogspot.com/2...s-in-tomb.html
This has an interesting claim. 'The Babylon Talmud records that "The portion of a day is as the whole of it." Surely this ruling was only ever used to calculate how long a woman was unclean when menstruating. If she was unclean on part of the day, then she was unclean for all of the day. Why is this relevant to Jesus being 3 days and 3 nights in the tomb, when he was clearly only 2 nights in the tomb? |

Jesus was in the tomb from Friday evening to Sunday morning. This is only a day and a half.
However, because he worked over Easter - which is a bank holiday - he got 'double time' so it counted as three days for purposes of pay and prophecy fulfillment! |

Percy, that is just terrific!
seriously, though, I think the problem is in the translation. Jesus himself says 'on the third day' , which Sunday is, from Friday. or 'I will restore it in three days ' i.e. within three days. |

From the website:

Where does "the portion of a day is as the whole of it" actually come from? |

I checked Tektonics, who refers to the on-line Jewish Encyclopedia here:

Can you find these rulings in the Talmud, where only menstruation is referred to? They seem to be modern rulings. I shall quote 'In Jewish communal life part of a day is AT TIMES reckoned as one day; e.g., the day of the funeral, even when the latter takes place late in the afternoon, is counted as the first of the seven days of mourning; a short time in the morning of the seventh day is counted as the seventh day; circumcision takes place on the eighth day, even though of the first day only a few minutes remained after the birth of the child, these being counted as one day.' We have the same rules about rounding parts of days. 4 days after a football game on Sunday is Thursday, even if the game took place late on Sunday. But not even Americans count Friday evening to Sunday morning as 3 days and 3 nights, although I'm sure some video rental shops might charge for 3 nights rental. Anyway which was the third night Jesus spent in the ground - was it the Friday night or the Saturday night? |

None of the above, because of TRADITION there is a failure in Judaism to recognize the precise boundaries of the "on the tenth day of the month" and of "on the fourteenth day of the month" and of "on the fifteenth day of the month".
The majority of Christianity, not being observant of these 'Jewish' holy days, and following their own TRADITION, alter the text of the Torah under the guise of 'translating' it, obscuring the meanings of the actual words. To any seeker after truth, observe not only the days of the week, but look beyond the contentions of competing religions and factions and sects. Be honest and equal in all manner of measure and mete-yard. How many hours are in the first day of the week? and in the sixth day of the week? in six days? in seven days? how many hours are in ten days? in fourteen days? what are the limits or boundaries of the "evening" of the fourteenth day of the month"? What day of the week did the first month of the year begin on in the account of the crucifixion narrative? There are but seven choices, by fifteen days length, lay them out, set them in order, yes, consider the things that are equal, measure their boundaries carefully, perhaps you will begin to grasp how many finger-breadhts, and how many hand-breadths,are in a cubit and a measuring reed. Seven choices, and if you choose not, the choice has been given to another. Will you get knowledge, and choose wisdom, and choose a good choice for your own integrity? or let the vain and the ignorant rob you? Respectfully, Sheshbazzar |
