Methodius - Another Reason to Think the Fourth Century Conspiracy Theory is Idiotic
If we are to buy into this conspiracy theory we are supposed to believe that Eusebius went around establishing a 'false history' of the Church and 'inventing' the Christianity of Origen and various Origenists throughout the earlier period. Yet Eusebius doesn't mention even so much as once Methodius of Olympia, the first historical opponent of Origen. How can this be explained. From Wikipedia:

Perhaps but I am learning things in the process. I didn't realize that Eusebius didn't mention Methodius which in turn demonstrates how apologetic the Ecclesiastical History is - especially for Origen and the Alexandrian tradition. Without Eusebius I wonder how Alexandria would have been included in a world history of the Church. I think it helps explain why Eusebius was granted Imperial favor. I think he represents a prominent figure associated with Alexandrianism who embraced the reforms of Constantine, a kind of anti-Arius.
Besides I think I have finally beaten them into submission ... |

The old time catholic error. If our opinions dominate all discussion, we win.

You win then. Some victory. My only interest was to study the phenomenon of mass delusion.

Our perception is, that you, representative of the mainstream popular opinion, are the willingly deluded participants in the phenomenon of mass delusion.
After all, you have all the 'experts', millions of believers, and massive 'educated' opinion, on your side, all readily swallowing your line of swill. That two or three individuals on this forum might be found disagreeing with you hardly amounts to us properly being described as being any 'mass'. Your opinions are the ones that currently hold sway over the field of 'history' by a margin of several millions to one. We of course, who don't subscribe to your official version of church history, are only the 'losers', of 'the lunatic fringe'. A tiny 'nuisance' minority that you desire to put to silence. Your position therefore is the 'catholic' one, of might makes right. |
