I Want to Raise Money to Ask the Mar Saba Librarian a Question
I know I raised the possibility of fundraising a month ago. I never carried through with the project because I thought it was too much work for too little impact. In fact everyone on both sides of the issue kept saying that the only thing that matters is finding the manuscript discovered by Morton Smith in 1958 at the Mar Saba monastery.
Let me tell everyone that I really have tried to do so. I am still working on a number of different efforts to so independently of this effort. Nevertheless I think the only way we are going to find this manuscript is by asking the last known person to have contact with it - Kallistos Dourvas the former librarian at Mar Saba. Dourvas told Charles Hedrick when asked if he knows where the manuscript is something like 'I can find it.' He's got to hold the key to everything. The real question is where is Dourvas and after three months of digging I finally found him as my friend Harry Tzalas notes in an email: Quote:
What I am trying to raise now is a couple of bucks to fly my friend Harry up to see him and delicately ask what happened to the manuscript. I am fairly confident something will come out of this. If anyone wants to donate $50 - 100 bucks to fly Harry from Athens to the closest airport, rent a car and speak to Dourvas let me know. We finally might be able to solve this mystery one way or the other http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&sa...-8&sa=N&tab=wl |

Wow I just checked Expedia. It's as little as a $177 dollars
http://www.expedia.com/Flights-Searc...-24675f4479e7& So with a rental car and a hotel and some searching around $500 bucks should cover it. Can I find four other people to put in $100? |

Thanks DAZ,
I think I might have insulted my friend with the request. He hasn't responded to my email. In any event, for those interested here is the something that was faxed to me yesterday - the handwriting of Neophytos of Cyprus. I don't think it is an exact match with Mar Saba 65 but it is similar as the Greek expert noted in the email he sent to me. Hard copy will arrive in a week. |
