Question The earliest images of Christ

It seems I recall reading that the earliest Christian representations of Christ showed things like a lamb lying at the base of a cross, or even a crucified man with the head of a lamb! Can some of the experts here direct me to information on this, and to these images?

You are referring, I think, to the Alexamanos graffito.

See here

There are also other images of Jesus listed by date on that website.

Thank you for those links, Jeffrey- but it was specifically a lamb I recall reading about. Can't recall where, though...

Wikipedia on Lamb of God (not the band) might have been what you were reading.

This page http://www.aug.edu/augusta/iconography/lambOfGod.html provides links to some representations of Christ as the Lamb of God.

You talking about this guy?

There's another one similar to this but instead of sculpture a painting. I'll see if I can find it.

The cover of E.P.Sanders "The Historical Figure of Jesus" has a photo of "Christ as the good shepherd in the catacombs, Rome ...photo Scala", if that helps.
Vey similar to your sculpture but with birds and more lambs in a rural setting.
cheers

I'm googling the text of the Sanders photo, as above and getting some interesting hits, including this one.
