The Matthean pericope is located in the middle of the book surrounded by two other lacunae which is significant to its understanding. In Matt. 10.6, he preaches to his disciples that he comes for Israel only. In Matt. 28.19, he preaches to his disciple to go to all nations. Here, then, is the author's turning point in theology which he gives as a reason why the Gentiles are converting but not Jews.
